Ira Yugay
Ira Yugay, 1973, Oezbekistan. Like many of her countrymen her grandparents moved early this century from occupied Korea to the Sovjet Union. In 1937 The Sovjet Union deported the community to Central Asia. Ira Yugay received a musical education and grew up with three different cultures: Korean, Central Asian and Russian. “Project Red” is an ego document, her search for the history of her family and herself. The objects and images and use of red marks some of the hidden emotions that lay behind her works.
